Celebrate KIVULI’s 13th birthday!
Kivuli arrived in sanctuary when he was just seven years old. So, while he’s grown — both physically and behaviorally — since March of 2018, Kivuli has really come into his own over the past year in particular. He continuously surprises the care staff and serves as a reminder as to why we do what we do.
He’s been eating with the rest of the males (instead of the females) in the Laurie & Carlee McGrath Chateau for about a year now. His confidence has skyrocketed since this change and we often see Kivuli first up at the hopper, even in front of high-ranking members like Kennedy and Binah. He’s also been testing his ground outside of mealtime. Younger members of chimpanzee groups will try bluff displays around this age to assert themselves into the groups hierarchy which can often result in being reprimanded. Kivuli, on the other hand, has seen a great amount of leniency despite his shenanigans.
Overall, care staff would say Kivuli has had a really good year and we’re all enjoying watching him grow and figure out his role in the group!
If you’d like to send a birthday gift to Kivuli via our Amazon Wish List, he would really appreciate some peanut butter. It’s kind of his favorite.
It’s January 19 and we at Project Chimps want to wish our youngest resident, Kivuli, a very happy 13th birthday! This group is always a riot thanks, in no small part, to his personality within it!
