Celebrate SHEENA’s 35th birthday!
Sheena is the oldest female in the Laurie and Carlee McGrath Chateau A group. She loves the South Peachtree Habitat and can often be found napping on the many platforms or just “potato-ing” on the grass enjoying the sunshine.
Seeing any chimp relax and enjoy the outdoors is a welcome sight but, with Sheena, it means a little bit more. Born in January 1989 but not arriving in sanctuary until November of 2021, Sheena spent nearly 33 years in a research lab environment. We don’t know much about her experience in the labs but we do know that we’re very happy to provide her the opportunity to grow old with grass and dirt under her feet and fellow chimps by her side.
This darling of Chateau A loves green beans which earned her the nickname “Sheen Bean,” or even “Beans” for short… both of which she responds to, by the way. Sheena shares a bond with Zana, another older female in the group, to the point where she’ll let Sheena take food straight from her mouth. Sheena will sometimes throw her poop if she feels like her caregivers are taking too long to feed or even when they are not paying enough attention to her!
Please join us in wishing “Beans” — oh sorry… Sheena — a very happy 35th birthday today. If you’d care to send her a birthday gift, you can check out our Amazon Wish List which gets shipped directly to the sanctuary! She loves peanut butter so, if you’re looking for ideas, that’s a good place to start.
