Celebrating COLLIN’s 22nd birthday!
It’s October 22nd, and this year is extra special because it’s also Collin’s 22nd birthday!
Collin lives in Harmony villa, where he’s the youngest male in his group by 13 years! The other males in his group (Jermaine, Ronald, and Kareem) are all between the ages of 35 and 36. He loves to pal around with alpha-male Kareem when in the habitat and is also quite fond of alpha-female Babs because of her large derriere.
Although he may be the youngest male in his group, Collin is still a large chimp unafraid to use his size to his advantage! In the past, he would intimidate the female chimps in his group to chase them away and steal their food. Over the past year, however, he’s turned over a new leaf during mealtimes. Rather than chasing the girls away from their food, now Collin will sit and wait patiently for his turn.
That’s not to say he’s completely quieted down, though! Collin will repeatedly blow raspberries as a (very) slow build leading up to his displays. Because the girls know what to anticipate when he starts displaying, they put some distance between themselves and Collin by climbing to the top of the enclosure.
Collin is a huge foodie and enjoys most ANY food item, but he especially loves scatter. He will sweep a big pile in front of him and then slurp it all up — vacuum style! He’s historically never been super playful or attentive of his caregivers, but lately he’s been playing with them much more!
