Celebrating LUKE’s 37th birthday!
This year, October 25th is an extra special day for us at Project Chimps. Not only is today Luke’s 37th birthday, it’s also his 5th birthday in sanctuary since arriving from the lab!
Luke lives in Chimps Ahoy villa, where he’s the third oldest chimp in alpha Kirk’s group. He’s often curious about visitors he can see through the habitat windows and makes a point to observe them. You might be able to spot him by looking for his fluffy hair, close-set eyes, and pointed right ear!
When it comes to Luke’s favorite things, he seems to really enjoy making music! One of Luke’s favorite items to play with is the keyboard. He seems fascinated by the different sounds he can make come from it as he presses the different keys. He also really enjoys sipping on grape juice!
Luke has come a long way since he’s arrived at Project Chimps, and that’s been especially true in the past year. According to his caregivers, he’s come into his own and become a much more confident chimp in his family group. While he does like to push buttons with other members of his villa, he’s also good-natured and curious.
When talking about Luke, one caregiver said the slow wind up to his displays almost resembles a wind-up toy. Although it takes him a minute to get going, they say that once he does, he’s very entertaining to watch!
