"Chimp or Treat" at Project Chimps!

Project Chimps will hold a special, two-day “Chimp or Treat” open house for local families on Friday, October 26, and Saturday, October 27, in Morganton. Children are invited to “Chimp or Treat” in costume, tour the sanctuary – which is now home to 49 former research chimpanzees – and take home candy and fun treats.

Tickets are $10 for each child plus one adult. Children under the age of two will be admitted free of charge. Adult-only tickets are $25 each. Tickets include:

• A 45-60 minute, guided, walking tour with other children and adults;
• Special treats at seven stops including vegan and palm-oil free candies as well as non-food treats items such as temporary tattoos, erasers, and other treats;
• A children’s “treat” bag for their goodies (including a Teal Pumpkin option for non-food goodies);
• The chance to see a chimpanzee from one of many viewing windows.

On both Friday and Saturday, tours begin on the half hour starting at 11 a.m. The last tour begins at 1:30 p.m. Guests can choose from the available tour times during their online ticket purchase.

Guests are advised to note that the 1+ mile walking tour is similar to a moderate hike. Special shuttles are available upon request during ticket purchase. For tickets and more information, visit projectchimps.org/events online.

Organizers note that Project Chimps is not a zoo, so the chimpanzees are not on display. In the sanctuary, the chimps have the choice to be visible or to hide. They add that many of the chimpanzees are interested in children and will greet them at the viewing windows.
