Meet the Chimps
About the Groups at Project Chimps
Project Chimps is home to 100+ chimpanzees, all of whom previously lived in research labs. Before coming to Project Chimps, all of these chimpanzees were housed in same-sex groups in the lab to prevent unwanted breeding, meaning this may be their first time living with male and female chimpanzees outside of their original group.
Chimpanzees are social beings, so group harmony and compatibility are important considerations when introducing new chimps from the lab. Our behavior team and care staff work with representatives from the lab to determine the best fit for each group and observe new chimps carefully after arrival to help ensure the integration process goes smoothly.
There are currently 6 distinct groups at Project Chimps, each with a unique group dynamic and wide range of personalities. We encourage you to learn about all of them, and if any of them caught your eye, to consider sponsoring them and supporting their continued care!
Won't You Help?
This project would not be possible without our many generous individual supporters and volunteers. We rely on donations to fulfill our mission, including caring for our existing residents and expanding the sanctuary to accommodate those chimpanzees still waiting in the lab.
Won’t you help us bring the remaining chimps to sanctuary by supporting Project Chimps today? Please donate today because...
