Who's Who in Harmony Villa?

About This Group

Harmony Villa is another of the smaller groups at the sanctuary and has truly adopted their given name as a harmonious group. However, since adding younger male chimps Kennedy and Danner to the group, the group’s “harmony” has shaken up a bit as they try to figure out where they rank and form new relationships with each other. Harmony’s chimps are a very playful group who love the outdoors, love climbing trees and platforms, and especially love a Lunch Launch! You may spot this group in the South Yard of Peachtree Habitat.

Chimp Chatter About This Group:

  • Fathers Among Chimpanzees

    By Grace Campbell | June 15, 2026

What makes a good father? While chimpanzee mothers often form strong bonds with their babies, fathers among chimpanzees often take a more hands-off approach. So, when a father and son were united by coincidence, we never expected to see a bond beyond shared genes.

  • Kennedy’s First Time Outside

    By Grace Campbell | May 25, 2026

When you spend your life in one place, a new environment isn’t just intimidating. It’s terrifying. Even if it’s the one you were born to be in. This is what many former research chimpanzees experience who never got to go outside. So when the opportunity is placed right in front of them, wouldn’t they be excited? For some, yes. For others, it can take a little while to warm up to the idea. That’s what we saw leading up to Kennedy’s first time outside.

This project would not be possible without our many generous individual supporters and volunteers. We rely on donations to fulfill our mission, including caring for our existing residents and expanding the sanctuary to accommodate those chimpanzees still waiting in the lab.

Won’t you help us bring the remaining chimps to sanctuary by supporting Project Chimps today? Please donate today because...
