Painting with Primates
Art Workshops
Painting with Primates pairs an instructor-led painting workshop with a guided visit to Project Chimps sanctuary. Perched on a rooftop above a chimpanzee habitat, participants follow a step-by-step lesson from a local art instructor while enjoying views of the sanctuary and observing the chimpanzees below. All materials are provided and bottled water is available. The experience suits beginners and experienced artists alike and supports retired research chimpanzees living in sanctuary.

Itinerary

Classes meet Saturdays at 1:00 PM and are limited to 12 participants, so advance reservations are recommended. Children ages 10 and older are welcome when registered with a participating adult.
Classes are held rain or shine. If weather conditions are not suitable for the rooftop, part or all of the workshop will move to a nearby indoor location. Participants will still have opportunities to see the chimpanzees.
Accessibility & Mobility: Painting with Primates takes place on the rooftop of one of our chimpanzee buildings. An elevator provides access to the first level, followed by 12 stairs to reach the rooftop classroom. If you have mobility concerns, please contact us before booking. We’ll be happy to discuss the experience and available accommodations.
Please Note:
- Featured artwork varies by class and will be announced in advance.
- Each class is limited to 12 participants.
- A minimum of two participants is required for a class to be held. If only one participant is registered, the class may be cancelled or rescheduled.
