Chimps Rock!
Join us for a special art and discovery tour designed for kids and kids at heart!
Please join us for a guided tour of the Project Chimps sanctuary in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Inspired by The Kindness Rocks Project, children are also invited to paint a rock with messages of inspiration to enrich the lives of the former research chimpanzees who now live at the sanctuary. Adults without children are welcome to attend too!
- Guided walking tours of the sanctuary!
- 45-60 minutes of moderate hiking with rest stops
- Sign up for designated tour times
- Each child's ticket comes with 1 adult ticket.
Each child will receive:
- A 45-60 minute, guided, walking tour with other children and adults
- A rock and art supplies to paint it onsite
- The chance to see a chimpanzee from one of our viewing windows
Children 2 and under are free!
We are offering opportunities for this event to families who could not otherwise afford the ticket price, if you would like to contribute and underwrite the cost of a ticket for another child, please add this as a donation during check out. Donated tickets will be provided to various Fannin County coordinators who work with families and children in need.
- Guided Walking Tour Details - Tour groups will be limited to accommodate for social distancing and to ensure that both chimps and humans can enjoy the tour.
- Guests are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes before the start time of your tour window.
- You may be in a group with other guests. Please try to keep 6 feet in between your group and other groups.
- Will We See Chimps on the Tour? - Chimpanzee sightings are very likely but are not guaranteed as the chimps have the option to be visible or to hide in the forested outdoor habitat.
- How Hard is the Walk around the Sanctuary? Please Read! - Expect a 45-60 minute, moderate hike on gravel roads with some steep inclines. The hike can be challenging for young children, less active adults and those with limited mobility.
- If you have guests in your group who may not be able to complete a moderate hike, PLEASE request mobility assistance when purchasing tickets. We regret that we may not be able to accommodate day-of-event requests for mobility assistance.
- Directions and Parking - Your ticket will include directions to the sanctuary and parking instructions.
- What if it Rains? - The event will occur rain or shine.
- Not feeling well? If you or anyone in your group has not been feeling well or has been around anyone who has been sick, we ask that you please reschedule your tour for another time.
- Masks - COVID information changes regularly and we are following current recommendations. We are requesting that all guests wear a mask or facial covering, regardless of vaccination status.
- Refunds - We do not offer refunds. If you can not make the event, we will happily transfer your tickets into someone else's name or turn your tickets into a donation for the chimps.
