Spring Brachiate

Brachiation (from "brachium", Latin for "arm"), or arm swinging, is a form of arboreal locomotion in which primates swing from tree limb to tree limb using only their arms.

Looking for a place to recover from the stress of midterms? Consider spending your Spring Break at Project Chimps! For one week, you can help out around the sanctuary, prepare chimpanzee meals, create chimp enrichment, work on construction projects, and harvest plants in our garden for chimps.

This alternative spring break offers students a chance to travel, enrich the lives of a deserving group of former research chimps, meet new people, and help make the world a little bit better.

If you are interested in making a 12-week commitment to Project Chimps, check out our Internship program.

Volunteers make enrichment and new friends.

The Experience

Make new friends. Experience chimpanzees first-hand. Spend your Spring Break doing something that makes a lasting difference. And leave feeling accomplished and satisfied.

Spring Brachiate groups are generally 4-6 college students (individuals not enrolled in college are invited to attend a Chimpcation experience instead).

Most trips last five (5) weekdays with weekends used for additional vacation time or travel. Volunteer experience days start at 8:30 AM and end at 4 PM with lunch provided onsite.

Your five-day Spring Brachiate experience includes:

  • Keepsake volunteer bandana and a backpack;
  • Vegan lunches on each work day;
  • Exclusive one-hour Chimp Chat with our chimpanzee experts;
  • One “free day” for off-site activities of your choice;
  • Access to online training courses (two will be required before arrival);
  • Tools, safety equipment, training and supervision; and,
  • Trip planning guidance.

This project would not be possible without our many generous individual supporters and volunteers. We rely on donations to fulfill our mission, including caring for our existing residents and expanding the sanctuary to accommodate those chimpanzees still waiting in the lab.

Won’t you help us bring the remaining chimps to sanctuary by supporting Project Chimps today? Please donate today because...
