Health Update: Jamie (Nov 2020)

Jamie is loud-mouthed, kooky, and quick to complain. But she’s also very caring and loves her fellow “Golden Girls”, Jurita, Jill, and Precious, fiercely. She’s quick to give all of them advice whether they want it or not.

Jamie is spry for her age. While she is active and agile, the team noticed that something was just a little off – she was drinking a lot of water. While subtle as that symptom might be, it indicated there could be something going on that needed to be investigated.

When the time came to move from DJ&T Villa to Cedar Tree Villa, Jamie was on the list of chimps that we wanted to take a closer look at and collect diagnostics to see if our hunch was correct.

Something is off

Her lab work revealed that she has renal insufficiency. Fortunately, Jamie is in the very early stages and most importantly, she is a highly cooperative and easy-going chimp when it comes to trying new things and taking medications.

Although there is little that can be done to stop the forthcoming damage to her kidneys, we can slow it down with fluid therapy – basically encouraging her to drink as much liquid as possible. She will be monitored closely and carefully.

We can always use your support in keeping out pantry stocked with a variety of juices for chimps like Jamie. Visit our wishlist here.
