Jermaine

Jermaine July 2021

Jermaine can be a bit particular about the way he likes things done. For example, he will NOT take corn unless it is shucked first. If you offer him corn that still has the husk, he will throw it on the ground then hold out his hand for one that meets his standards. He also has his “frequented spots” around the enclosures that he can always be found in, kind of like a grandpa who has “his chair” that no one else sits in.

Despite his fondness for relaxing in his climate-controlled villa, Jermaine remains a force to be reckoned with in the outdoor habitat. Despite getting on in years, he shows his strength with impressive displays, throwing rocks and swaggering bipedally while care staff admire his performance.

When he is not napping or reminding the youngsters that he’s still tough, Jermaine can be found relaxing with his friends Kareem and Ronald or playing with his favorite toys.

This project would not be possible without our many generous individual supporters and volunteers. We rely on donations to fulfill our mission, including caring for our existing residents and expanding the sanctuary to accommodate those chimpanzees still waiting in the lab.
