Building Community
Project Chimps passionately believes in the power of community. Supporters and partnerships of all sizes have been a cornerstone to the sanctuary's growth and provision of exemplary care to the chimpanzees who have a home here. In order to continue increasing awareness and support for the mission, the organization strives to foster community both locally and beyond.
The continuous goal of the outreach program is to entice individuals and other organizations to participate in the meaningful work happening at Project Chimps-- whether that means becoming volunteers, supporting the chimps financially, or engaging with us on social media-- the outreach team focuses on making the sanctuary accessible to people while making people accessible to the sanctuary.
Part of this goal is accomplished through the facilitation of the many ticketed events at the sanctuary as well as the opportunities for all groups to have educational opportunities on-site. In addition, the team builds and fosters relationships and partnerships by bringing outreach and participating in community events, both large and small, which help recruit volunteers and engage the public with its mission to provide exemplary care to former laboratory chimps. To the same effect, the sanctuary offers educational opportunities for groups who want to participate in field trips or lesson plans designed for several different subjects associated with the chimps, animal sanctuaries, and nature! Finally, the department also conducts constant communication with volunteers, staff, local partners, and various other stakeholders to effectively use media (print, social, and mixed), to fulfill the organization's mission statement.
