Almasi

Almasi July 2021

Almasi is on “Almasi time” during meals. Sometimes she likes to wait for her chow until a little later in the morning. She tends to be slower to get up in the morning, preferring to stay in her blanket and box nest on the third platform until she decides she’s ready. She’ll often play with her feet or with fellow groupmate Amy as caregivers try to get her attention with food!

Despite being one of the lower ranking females in Harmony villa, Almasi is good friends with all her group mates. She is kind to everyone and loves to play.

Almasi is also a great helper. For example, if it is time for dinner and we don’t have everyone back in from the outdoor habitat, she will let us know by sitting in the door while looking into the habitat.

If they don’t come back right away, she’s also been known to leave the villa to track down her friends and let them know it is dinner time. A few minutes later, we’ll see all chimps, including Almasi, walking back to Harmony. Almasi is a great friend to have because she looks out for everyone!

They may fail to understand social norms, and feel awkward, unsure, or anxious around other chimps. These interactions can be tricky because the chimps haven’t learned lessons that mom usually instills during childhood.

This project would not be possible without our many generous individual supporters and volunteers. We rely on donations to fulfill our mission, including caring for our existing residents and expanding the sanctuary to accommodate those chimpanzees still waiting in the lab.
