Celebrating BAB’s 28th birthday!

In the realm of chimps, where bonds and social status define their world, Babs—a 28-year-old matriarch—exhibits an aura that intrigues those fortunate enough to cross her path. As the largest and highest-ranking female in her group, Babs has earned her place through a combination of strength, diplomacy and a touch of mischievousness. Today, we’re throwing a big 28th birthday bash for Babs and taking a deep dive into her captivating journey at Harmony Villa. 

With her towering presence and strong-willed nature, Babs has managed to secure the top spot among her female peers. She skillfully appeases the males while maintaining order among the younger females. With her trusted friends Sky and LB by her side, Babs patrols the habitat, ensuring that peace and harmony reign supreme. Sky, LB and Babs are tight. You’ll often catch them chillin’ together or maybe even helping each other out with a quick grooming session. 

One cannot discuss Babs without mentioning her love for food. While she has been known to indulge in stealing morsels from her groupmates, caregivers have been diligently working to curb this behavior. Although Babs is known for her playful naughtiness, she’s been getting better at keeping her hands off other people’s stuff. However, she still can’t resist attempting to snag someone’s last bite, with one exception: Amy, the smallest member of the group. In her dual role as leader and caregiver, Babs has a unique connection with Collin. He’s the youngest chimp in their circle but this bond makes her even more pivotal within their group dynamic. 

Babs’ adventurous spirit is not limited to her role as a leader. Babs has a knack for climbing, frequently making her way up to the top spot in South Peachtree Habitat. From this vantage point, she can survey her domain while enjoying the company of LB and Sky, her loyal companions. Babs’ affinity for heights extends to her favorite pastime: napping. It is not uncommon to find her peacefully dozing alongside her friends, creating a picturesque scene of tranquility amidst the treetops. 

Babs’ social status comes with certain privileges, including the occasional stolen meal. She has been known to snatch food right out of LB’s mouth. Astonishingly, LB doesn’t seem to mind and there are even moments when she appears to willingly surrender her food. Rest assured though, the dedicated caregivers at Harmony ensure that LB still receives her fair share.
