Celebrating JASON’s 22nd birthday!
It’s another exciting birthday at Project Chimps! Not only is today Jason’s 22nd birthday, it’s also his eighth birthday since arriving at the sanctuary in 2017. To celebrate, we’re thrilled to share some of what makes this chimp so unique!
Jason lives in Bo’s group in Cedar Tree villa where he is a middle ranking chimp. Within the sanctuary, he’s known as the resident “ballplayer” because he loves throwing toys as far as he can! His favorites are the big toy balls he can bounce and swing around, both for personal enjoyment and for displaying.
He’s also a big fan of wood wool and boxes! Jason loves piling these up in front of him to move from room to room. Often, caregivers know when Jason is going to come through a door before they can see him! He throws a huge pile of wood wool through the door right before he leaps through to the other side. Recently he’s been playing a lot with his groupmates and caregivers. Often, he and one of his friends will be so busy playing that they’re late for dinner!
He loves fruit and vegetables, but always makes sure to sniff each one before eating. We think that’s his way of making sure they’re up to his standards. Jason prefers to eat on one of the top platforms, so that’s where he usually takes his food. He lies on his back while he does this — almost like a Roman emperor!
