Celebrating KEVIN’s 21st birthday!
October 3rd is a busy day in Laurie and Carlee McGrath Chateau because three chimps all share the same birthday — right down to the year! Today, we’re celebrating chimps Keith, Kevin, and Lucky. In this blog, we’re excited to kick things off with the big chimp himself — Kevin!
Kevin is the more dominant chimp when compared to Keith and is perfectly content to stare directly into your soul. He’s a big fan of displaying right before breakfast. He gets the group riled up by running bipedally through the rooms and with his signature door kick. This specialty move involves jumping off the floor and kicking a door with both feet three times in a row. Although the move is still Kevin’s signature, Keith has also started to take part!
Aside from juice, Kevin’s favorite item by far is care staff’s work boots, particularly dark blue pairs. When caregivers are working in the villas, he follows them around to watch their boots. Recently, caregivers gave Side B an old pair of rubber boots they weren’t using anymore hoping Kevin might enjoy them. As it turned out, however, the chimps didn’t seem to care after their initial investigation!
Over the last year, caregivers noticed Kevin was experiencing some facial swelling. A medical examination found it was reaggravated scar tissue, likely from getting bopped in the face by another chimp. While he has a slightly larger right side of his nose, we’re glad to know Kevin is doing great!
