Celebrating MANDY’s 14th birthday!
It’s always exciting to celebrate the birthday of one of the youngest residents at Project Chimps, and today is no different! Today on October 12th, we’re celebrating Mandy’s 14th birthday. We can’t wait to share a little about this special chimp!
As one of the young females in Kirk’s group, Mandy has grown a lot over the past year. While she’s always been close with Moonie, she’s been building stronger relationships with the rest of her group as well. She’s become good friends with fellow adolescent female Roxy, hanging out together in the rightmost bedroom of Chimps Ahoy villa. By taking time to play with the high-ranking males, Mandy also gets backup if anyone tries to take her food.
Mandy loves her blankets! She can often be found lying on the decking in her villa and waving a blanket around below her. She does this either to entertain herself or to invite one of her groupmates to play with her. While she seems to prefer blankets, she’s also been spotted playing with stuffed animals and rubber toys. Her favorite spot to eat dinner is under the ladder in the right porch of her villa. If care staff can’t find her during dinner, she’s almost always hanging out there.
Mandy used to be known for her “baby raspberries” — a softer, more subdued version of the raspberries chimps blow while waiting for their food. However, as she gets older and gains more confidence, her quiet requests for food have become much more assertive!
Today on October 12th, we’re thrilled to be able to celebrate Mandy’s 14th birthday here at Project Chimps. If you’d like to send her a birthday gift, she’d love a new blanket from our Amazon Wishlist!
