Celebrating MANETTA’s 20th birthday!
Today on October 9th, we’re celebrating another milestone birthday as Manetta turns 20 years old. However, that’s not the only milestone taking place this year! Today is also her 3rd birthday in sanctuary since she arrived from the lab!
Manetta arrived at Project Chimps in June of 2022, where she’s now a middle-ranking chimp in Prince’s group. She has great relationships with the female and male chimps in her group, especially her younger sister Nyia. They can often be found playing and laying together, and overall Manetta is much more chimp-oriented than human-oriented. Recently, she’s also been playing more often with Paul!
Outside of going on perimeter walks in the habitat with Melanie, Manetta loves being high up off the ground! Caregivers often spot her lounging or napping on the firehose or up in a hammock. She’s a corn and butternut squash enthusiast, but she also likes pineapple when in the form of a rubber toy!
In the past, Manetta preferred to drink juice out of a toy, such as a bucket. She’d bring this to her caregivers and would then retreat to drink the juice they poured inside. However, recently she’s accepting birth control out of a blue “boy” cup rather than a bottle like the other females.
