Celebrating MAVERICK’s 31st birthday!
Yup, you read that right — today is Maverick’s 31st birthday! You might recognize him for his visibly short legs, which led staff to affectionately nickname him “Baby Legs!” We can’t wait to wish him a happy birthday, and we hope you’ll join the celebration too!
Maverick lives in Chimps Ahoy villa, where he’s arguably one of the lowest-ranking males. When the chimps line up for meals, he puts himself in the back and lets the others “cut” in front. In fact, sometimes he’ll even let some of the girls take food right out of his hands. Not to worry, though — Maverick is starting to stick up for himself more when Roxy tries to take his fruit.
Maverick has been getting bolder over time. He’s come a long way since his arrival at Project Chimps and has been displaying much more frequently. He does this by running bipedally with his arms stretched out wide and shoulders hunched up to his ears. Unfortunately for this new bold Maverick, his group doesn’t seem to approve of his displays and tend to shout him down when he begins winding up. Even so, he doesn’t let it get him down!
When someone in the group is upset, Maverick is quick to provide reassurance. He’s very playful and enjoys playing chase and wrestling with the other chimps. His favorite treats are bananas, peanut butter, and walnuts, which he requests by bobbing his head and panting energetically.
