Celebrating MELANIE’s 19th birthday!
It’s another exciting birthday at Project Chimps! Today, we’re looking forward to celebrating Melanie as she turns 19 years old!
Melanie arrived at Project Chimps in June of 2022, making this her third birthday here at the sanctuary! She’s the youngest chimpanzee in alpha Prince’s group and is also one of the lower-ranking females in her group. However, that’s not to say she has no tricks up her sleeve!
According to her caregivers, Melanie is also known as “Mischievous Melanie.” As one of Muttie’s best friends, she’s learned to be sneaky when it comes to holding on to her food! She is full siblings with fellow groupmate Dawn and Harley, who lives in Harmony villa.
Recently, she’s been gaining confidence within her family and making an effort to build relationships. She plays with Manetta the most and spends time going on perimeter walks around the habitat. You might be able to spot her signature droopy ears if you happen to be visiting nearby!
Melanie is very food-motivated, particularly when it comes to peanut butter and Nature’s Path Organic Mesa Sunrise Cereal! However, pretty much any type of food item is a hit with Melanie. She’s easy to spot due to her visible middle part and can often be found in the upper right side of the bedroom blowing raspberries.
