Celebrating ROXY’s 14th birthday!

It’s August 21st and we couldn’t be happier! Not only is today Roxy’s 14th birthday but it also marks the 5th birthday she’s spent at Project Chimps. In celebration of this special milestone, we’re excited to share a little bit about what makes her so unique!

Roxy is absolutely bursting with energy, which isn’t surprising considering her age! As one of the youngest female chimps at the sanctuary, Roxy is playful, curious and a little mischievous. She’s not afraid to stand up to chimps much older and higher ranking than herself. If any of her groupmates upset her, she’s not shy about letting the rest of them know.

Roxy gets along well with the other young female chimps in her group and loves exploring the outdoor habitat. While her best friend at the sanctuary is still Kyrstin, recently she’s also been spending time with Mandy. They hang out together in right bedroom at Chimps Ahoy, where they groom, wrestle and simply enjoy each other’s company.

Roxy loves carrying around rubber dog toys and using them to initiate play sessions with the others. She does this by throwing them at the other chimps, including Rocko, a high-ranking male in her group. She also loves playing chase with her friends and swinging from the firehose hanging in her villa. Whenever staff swap these out, Roxy is always first to examine the new item.

As mischievous as Roxy may be, she always keeps things interesting. Sometimes it seems like she stirs up trouble just because she thinks things seem too quiet. Caregivers have even spotted her sitting outside other chimp buildings and trying to rile them up!
