Arielle

Arielle August 2025

Arielle is the youngest in her social group but is higher ranking than the other young females. She’s known for her feisty and quirky personality with a lot of energy to match.

Arielle loves eating banana browse and causing mischief in her group. Even though she causes her fair share of trouble, she’s careful to stay on good terms with her groupmates. She’s often seen grooming and hugging the male chimps in her group, and they reward her by letting her take food from them. She also enjoys playing with her close friend Mandy.

Arielle loves spending time outdoors and makes sure she’s the first one out into the habitat before the rest of her family. Often, you can spot her racing ahead of everyone else when the doors open! When she’s not outside exploring, Arielle can often be found racing around and swinging on the brachiating bars inside her villa. Arielle is also special in the way that she will help move other chimps out of rooms that we need to clear to clean!

The 2010s: Our Legacy for Research Chimps

December 23, 2019

As we swing our way into the second Roaring 20s, we look back at the accomplishments made for captive research chimpanzees in the 2010s.

In 2010, the European Union banned testing on great apes, a full five years before the United States would follow suit, making the U.S. the last country in the so-called “developed world” to end testing on chimpanzees.
