Buttercup July 2021

Buttercup was one of the first chimps to arrive at the sanctuary along with her identical twin sister, Charisse! They live alongside the rest of their group in Cedar Tree villa and have really been enjoying the new outdoor annex and connecting Skybridge completed in 2024. 

According to their caregivers, Buttercup and Charisse love to sit in the Skybridge and watch as people come and go underneath them. Sometimes when they’re in a particularly mischievous mood, they like to drop small items on the humans below. 

Buttercup is lower ranking than her sister, as well as a little more stubborn. However, she’s also extremely playful! Her favorite toys are long ones that she can poke through the mesh to play with her caregivers. Sometimes, she likes to pull all her toys into a pile and then toss them into the air with her feet.

Celebrate BUTTERCUP’s 19th birthday!

Buttercup has found a unique way to engage in playtime with blankets. Instead of engaging in a traditional tug-of-war, Buttercup and her twin Charisse have invented a new game by weaving blankets through the mesh along the villa ceilings, creating makeshift swings.
