Danner

It feels like Danner grew up overnight. He was younger, smaller and more insecure than the older, bolder males in his group of 14 chimps when he arrived in 2018. But now that he’s an adolescent and has grown into his adult size and enormous hands (which earned him the moniker “Danner Bananer hands”) and is one of the largest males in his group, he’s showing more confidence…especially when the other boys show bold displays…and trying to find his place in the hierarchy.

He was pretty rowdy when he was first introduced with the females, but now he has calmed down a lot and can be found playing and napping alongside them. He is even more playful with the males in his group. Danner has started carrying around large stuffed animals. His current favorite is a large stuffed giraffe and he loves to nest with it. Danner didn’t venture into the habitat much before his group moved to Chateau, but now he’s one of the first ones outside to explore. Danner loves movies, especially chimpanzee ones, and will sit and rub his toes while he watches.

It’s been an impressive transformation, and we are curious to see just how far Danner’s new confidence will take him.
