Haylee

Haylee July 2021

Haylee is the perfect combination of chaos and sweetness, and she’s still just as rambunctious as ever! She’s always excited to engage with her caregivers as well as her fellow chimps and can usually be found wherever the action is, such as excitedly watching tour groups go by, meddling in group drama, or letting staff know if the meals are running late! Some of her favorite things to do are startle people, wrestle with the other chimps, and drag her bright pink silky blanket around.

She may be the youngest and smallest chimp in her group, but she doesn’t let that stop her. It’s not uncommon to see Haylee throw her weight around to manipulate her group members (especially Arthur) to get her way. Even on days where she’s trying to intimidate everyone, she can be found afterwards grooming and making up with the other chimps.

Recently, Haylee has taken part in the hot new fashion trend among young female chimps at the sanctuary: adorning her rear end with a long strip of paper like a tail. She was very proud of herself when she had the longest paper strip “tail” of her groupmates including Tristen and Sophia, who also enjoy wearing paper tails. Haylee’s was so long that it trailed behind her like a wedding dress train!

She and Tristen are still close friends, although Tristen has been spending more time with the other female chimps in their group. (This may be because they don’t steal her food like Haylee does.)
