Maverick July 2021

Maverick is all black with a small notch scar in his upper lip, but he is popular for his disproportionately short legs. He quickly got the nickname “Baby Legs” and gets called that to the point that people forget his real name is Maverick! He seems to be a real Casanova. Maverick has come a long way since his arrival at Project Chimps. He had a bit of trouble accepting fellow male chimp Justin and needed Kirk (the alpha), Armond (the enforcer) and the sensible and mature Greg to figure things out. He’s steady now.

Chimpanzee Maverick Braves the Danger Zone

Mid-ranking male chimpanzee Maverick went right into the “danger zone” this week as two new males joined his social group of eight. Introducing new males into an existing chimpanzee society can be risky business, all Tom Cruise puns aside, so the chimpanzee care team at Project Chimps created a tactical plan for bringing the males together.
