Melanie

Melanie_July_2022

Melanie or “Mel” is one of the lower-ranking female chimps in Prince’s group and is known for causing mischief. She is chimp-oriented and shows determination making continuous efforts to join play and grooming sessions with her family members. She’s curious and at times a little clumsy, but her presence positively enhances the family and work dynamics in her group overall.

Melanie has strong relationships with Manetta, Muttie, and Babette and will typically spend time with them on the porch in the morning and nest with them later in the afternoon. Being close to Muttie, she’s learned to be sneaky when it comes to food to avoid being stolen from. She’s full siblings with Dawn, who also lives in her group, and Harley.

On habitat days, Melanie typically trails behind the male chimps and tries to follow them on patrol or will spend time with Manetta. Although she loves all food, onion and eggplant are favorites from lunch/forage, and her favorite toy is the red crab!
