Noel

Noel July 2021

Noel almost never turns down a play session, whether it’s with chimps or humans! She loved meeting and playing with Kennedy and Danner, who recently moved to Harmony.

Noel likes to play on the swing on the right porch while Care Staff clean the left porch. She seems to enjoy observing he process because she comes up to the mesh to see how the cleaning is going. She needs to be watched now in the evenings when we feed dinner because she tries to steal Harley’s vegetables, but we’ve been working on it, and she’s getting better at not stealing!

Sometimes we give the chimps more blankets through the mesh using a long stick to poke it through and she loves to steal the stick, throw it across the room, and look at us like she is ready do to it again. Another activity she enjoys is swinging on the firehose vines, she holds on tight and goes for a ride. Noel is all about having fun!

Stop Keeping Pet Chimps

May 9, 2022

By Kat West We can all agree that chimps are cute. But we also know they are wild animals and shouldn’t be kept as pets. Not everyone understands this, however. Big Girls, Little Girls, Middle Girls: Female Chimps Learn From Each Other

March 11, 2022

When chimps come to sanctuary, they may be interacting with other chimps (or chimps of the opposite sex) for the first time. They may fail to understand social norms, and feel awkward, unsure, or anxious around other chimps. These interactions can be tricky because the chimps haven’t learned lessons that mom usually instills during childhood.
