Sky

Sky July 2021

Sky, being one of the three older females in her group, is a fairly high-ranking individual. She isn’t afraid to make sure her needs are known! Is she hungry? BAM! BAM! BAM! Now you know. Are you annoying her? BAM! BAM! BAM! Now you know! She’s never very far from her friends Babs and LB and can usually be found sitting near or grooming with them.

One of Sky’s favorite pastimes is being up as high as she can climb. Often, she can be found perched up high in a corner somewhere rather than on the ground. Her caregivers jokingly refer to her as a gargoyle because of this. Even when locomoting through her enclosures, Sky prefers to climb the mesh or swing on firehouse rather than walk across the floor. It always makes us think she is playing and intense game of “the floor is lava.” For Sky, the sky is the limit!

Their hard work was worth it – the chimps are thriving outdoors. And they’re having a blast!

This project would not be possible without our many generous individual supporters and volunteers. We rely on donations to fulfill our mission, including caring for our existing residents and expanding the sanctuary to accommodate those chimpanzees still waiting in the lab.
