Taz

Taz2 July 2021
Taz continues to grow in his role as group mediator. Whenever a dispute breaks out, Taz is first on the scene, often getting between the two (or more) arguing chimps to break up the fight. He also can be seen giving comfort and reassurance to all participants once the conflict has settled down.
While Taz loves his food, he is polite when it is time to eat. He doesn’t shove or push his way to the front, instead patiently awaiting his turn and sometimes even allowing the younger females to get their food first. But he might have an ulterior motive in doing this — he may get an extra treat or two for being patient!
During the Spring Celebration, Taz was one of the first to run outside to see what treats waited for him in the habitat. Everyone in the sanctuary could easily hear his cries of joy at what he found! Taz ran all around grabbing up as much enrichment as he could hold. He then proceeded to sit down and scream with excitement for 10 minutes straight! He was so enthusiastic that he didn’t even try to eat any of his bounty, he just held the items using all his hands and feet and vocalized about how thrilled he was.

This project would not be possible without our many generous individual supporters and volunteers. We rely on donations to fulfill our mission, including caring for our existing residents and expanding the sanctuary to accommodate those chimpanzees still waiting in the lab.
