Kivuli

Kivuli July 2021

Kivuli, the youngest chimp at the sanctuary, has really come into his own lately. He continuously surprises the care staff and serves as a reminder as to why we do what we do.

His confidence has skyrocketed since he started eating with the males more regularly and we often see Kivuli first up at the hopper, even in front of high-ranking members like Kennedy and Binah. He’s also been testing his ground outside of mealtime. Around this age, younger members of chimpanzee groups will try bluff displays to assert themselves into the groups hierarchy which can often result in being reprimanded. Kivuli, on the other hand, has seen a great amount of leniency despite his shenanigans.

Care staff is really enjoying watching Kivuli grow and figure out his role within the group!
