Latricia

Latricia July 2021

Latricia is one of the highest-ranking female chimps in her current social group. Her caregivers describe her as a fair and protective leader who’s well respected and maintains good relationships with the other chimps in her group. She’s friendly, curious, intelligent, and focused, and tends to be one of the first chimps to give any needed reassurance to the group.

Latricia is an easygoing chimp who loves nothing more than taking it easy in one of her carefully-built and elaborate nests. Her special method of nest building involves weaving blankets through toys, mesh, and whatever other items she might have on hand.

Recently, she came up to one of the windows and played a game of “tap” with one of our caregiver aides. To play, she would tap on the window, the aide would tap on the window, she would tap back, and so on so forth

This project would not be possible without our many generous individual supporters and volunteers. We rely on donations to fulfill our mission, including caring for our existing residents and expanding the sanctuary to accommodate those chimpanzees still waiting in the lab.
