Samira

Samira is something of a royal figure within her group. Her elegance, sophistication, and slightly finicky nature led to her nickname “princess,” a title she still holds today! She’s one of the higher-ranking chimps in her group and is very politically savvy. According to her caregivers, she’s very good at communicating with her groupmates, often seen making big gestures with her arms and deep belly grunts while doing so.

Samira is one of the most interesting chimps to watch. She can be very particular, especially when it comes to things that are sticky or wet. One of her most unique habits is the way she chooses to move while in the habitat. When the grass is wet, Samira tiptoes across with her hands raised until she reaches a dry area.

She can also be very playful—Samira likes to find toys that slide over her arms or leg like bracelets or anklets and walk very carefully so that they won’t fall off. She also likes to pull on the legs of her groupmates as she follows them around!
