Lance’s alliances within the group have been politically fluid, depending on the dynamics of the day and the plans of the other males. While he is usually close with the alpha male, Bo, there are instances where Lance antagonizes another male, depending on who he chooses to support for the day. 

Charisse possesses a love for training that sets her apart from her twin Buttercup. Charisse eagerly embraces the opportunity to engage in training sessions, displaying enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

Buttercup has found a unique way to engage in playtime with blankets. Instead of engaging in a traditional tug-of-war, Buttercup and her twin Charisse have invented a new game by weaving blankets through the mesh along the villa ceilings, creating makeshift swings.

Despite her distinctive brow ridge, which can give the impression of a perpetual grumpy expression, Harley’s playful nature shines through as she engages in daily challenges with her caregivers and enjoys spirited playtime with her groupmates Sarah and Amy.

Admired and respected by his peers, Kennedy’s influence extends beyond his hierarchical position. His charisma and ability to foster harmonious relationships have earned him the trust and affection of his groupmates.

As Arthur enters a new phase of maturity, he is shifting his focus towards social interactions, learning to navigate his relationships with finesse and subtlety in the Dorothy Jo & Tilly Villa.

As the alpha male, Patrick takes it upon himself to ensure that everyone in the Dorothy Jo & Tilly Villa receives their fair share of food, challenging his caregivers to outsmart him in their efforts to maintain balance and harmony.

Although Rosemary generally avoids engaging in chimp fights, there are moments when her assertiveness shines through. Even the alpha male, Kirk, knows that when Rosemary gets involved, it’s time to surrender. Her unwavering presence and innate ability to defuse conflicts makes her a formidable force within her group. Her interventions ensure that harmony is restored and the well-being of all members is protected. 

Despite 25 years in research labs, Lindsey embodies wisdom, stoicism and playfulness, making her a beloved figure among her fellow chimps and caregivers alike.

Betty’s has an affinity for higher altitudes and this has earned her the nickname “gargoyle” among her caregivers.

After 31 years living in a research lab environment, Jessie finally arrived to live in sanctuary in June of 2022.

Emma is also known for engaging “ghost mode” where she drapes herself in a blanket and walks around.

Bobby is what you’d call a “chimps’s chimp.” He clearly prefers the company of his fellow chimpanzees over humans and that’s exactly what we like to see! 

This past year has been one of massive interpersonal development for Binah. We are so proud to see him developing relationships with his groupmates.

She was 12 when she arrived at sanctuary and, today, she celebrates her 20th birthday! We hope you’ll join us in wishing one of our originals, Gertrude, a very happy birthday.
