Genesis

Genesis July 2021

When she first arrived in sanctuary, Genesis was a rather introverted chimpanzee who seemed to prefer spending most of her time alone. However, that’s no longer the case! Genesis has made great progress in the last few years here at Project Chimps and has grown into a much more outgoing and self-assured chimp.

Genesis is one of the most frequent nest builders at the sanctuary with a talent for creating giant, comfy beds. She loves bedding of all kinds, whether it’s hay, wood wool, paper, or blankets. She’ll even gather up her nests in big armfuls and bring them with her from one room to another! She also loves the outdoor habitat and continues to explore more of it all the time.

Overall, Genesis is a sweet chimp who loves her wood wool and spending time focusing on her inner peace. Often, she can be found bobbing gently with an armful of wood wool in the open-air tunnel. Genesis is learning to use her voice in her family, and for that her caregivers are so proud of her!

This project would not be possible without our many generous individual supporters and volunteers. We rely on donations to fulfill our mission, including caring for our existing residents and expanding the sanctuary to accommodate those chimpanzees still waiting in the lab.
