Project Chimps offers a variety of internship opportunities!
There are many ways to participate as an intern including supporting our chimpanzee care team, working with our facilities department to build sustainable food gardens, organizing educational and special events, assisting with social media and graphic design, and more.
Please apply to join us if you meet the following requirements:
- At least 18 years of age;
- Able to meet the requirements outlined in the Essential Capabilities document, with or without reasonable accommodation;
- Willing and able to pass a criminal background check and sign a waiver and release of liability;
- Interns who wish to work in proximity to chimpanzees must be up to date on all vaccinations and be able to produce the results from a negative TB test within 12 months of the internship.

We’ll help you find an internship opportunity that is right for you!
A full-time internship commitment is up to 40 hours/week for 12 weeks. Part-time internships are available for remote positions. International interns are solely responsible for obtaining any required visas.
Full-time, onsite internships qualify for free on campus dorm style housing and $100 weekly stipends. We will additionally assist with transportation to/from the airport and the local towns for shopping and adventures if you do not have your own vehicle.

These opportunities are offered every semester:
Chimpanzee Care Intern - will be exposed to the operations of a chimpanzee sanctuary, learn how to care for captive chimpanzees and gain educational experience in chimpanzee behavior and natural history.
Communications Intern - will gain experience in various communications specialties at a nonprofit chimpanzee sanctuary including, but not limited to, writing for publication, social media, graphic design, video production, media, and outreach.
Facilities Intern - will gain experience performing various facility maintenance duties alongside the staff at a chimpanzee sanctuary.
These opportunities are offered spring and fall only:
Special Events Intern - will gain experience in special event management and fundraising practices.
Horticultural Intern - will gain experience with crop planting, harvesting, IPM practices, and more.
Naturalist/Trail Maintenance Intern - will gain experience in trails maintenance and outdoor educational practices.
