Harriett

Harriet July 2021

According to her caregivers, Harriett is one of the most sociable and playful chimps at the sanctuary. She does just about everything with her best friend, Betty, who she’s been known to defend when the rambunctious young male chimpanzees in her group stir up trouble. She and Betty are often within sight of each other while roaming the habitat and return together at dinner time after strolling in the sun. Harriett has taken a liking to the tree platform in the habitat and is often seen dozing among the leaves.

Harriet also has a special relationship with Binah, the acting alpha of her group. She loves to play with her caregivers by dancing, head nodding, and wiggling around while they do the same. And once Harriett has decided that she’s played enough with you, she gets as close as possible and spits right at your face!
