Who's Who in Chateau Group 1?

About This Group

The Laurie and Carlee McGrath Chateau is the largest building at the sanctuary and houses two distinct groups! Chateau Group 1 is known for being one of the more rambunctious groups at the sanctuary due to a higher number of young male chimpanzees. However, in recent years the group has begun to calm down as these chimps continue to mature and settle into their roles. It has the reputation of being a little chaotic and challenging, but also a lot of fun!

  • Vitiligo in Apes

    By Marissa Pena | May 21, 2023

If there’s one thing our care staff knows about chimpanzees, it’s that no two chimps are exactly alike! Like humans, chimpanzees are individuals with their own personalities, food preferences, hobbies, and even favorite colors. They also each have unique physical features as well!

  • Interning Internationally at Project Chimps

    By Marissa Pena | May 14, 2023

Finding a “home away from home” in Georgia’s beautiful Blue Ridge mountains may seem too good to be true, especially with the added difficulty of traveling to a completely different country! However, it’s exactly what Hannah St John-Mosse discovered after traveling more than 4,000 miles to arrive at what she calls a “once in a lifetime opportunity” interning abroad here at Project Chimps.

Won't You Help?

This project would not be possible without our many generous individual supporters and volunteers. We rely on donations to fulfill our mission, including caring for our existing residents and expanding the sanctuary to accommodate those chimpanzees still waiting in the lab.

Won’t you help us bring the remaining chimps to sanctuary by supporting Project Chimps today? Please donate today because...
